Mingliu font windows#
Starting with Windows Vista, HKSCS-2004 characters are only supported as Unicode 4.1 or later. Starting in Windows Vista, the default interface typefaces in all regions were changed to sans-serif styles, using "Microsoft JhengHei" in Traditional Chinese environments and "Microsoft YaHei" in Simplified Chinese environments. In Chinese versions of Microsoft Windows XP and older, the default interface typefaces are seriffed ( MingLiU and SimSun), which is inconsistent with the sans-serif styling use in most other (including East Asian) regions of the product. Similar technology was used on MingLiU and PMingLiU versions 5.03. To improve readability under small font sizes without using embedded bitmaps, TrueType hinting language was used for stroke-reduction.

Unlike previous fonts designed for CJK environments, Meiryo contains no embedded bitmaps. In previous Japanese fonts distributed with Windows, embedded bitmap glyphs are used whenever font size is set to around 9 points. However, IME is not updated as it was in the case of HKSCS-2001 patch, and the fonts are from pre-release of Windows 7. In addition, MingLiU-ExtB, MingLiU_HKSCS-ExtB and PMingLiU-ExtB fonts will be added onto target system.
Mingliu font Patch#
It replaces Windows XP version of MingLiu, PMingLiu, and MingLiu_HKSCS (if HKSCS-2001 patch was applied) with Windows 7 version of MingLiu, PMingLiu and MingLiu_HKSCS. In 2010, Microsoft published a HKSCS-2004 patch for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.
